| Patrick T. Smith
was elected Davison County State's Attorney in 1998. He
was re-elected again in 2000. He is a Mitchell native,
graduating from Mitchell High School in 1984. He went
on to get his undergraduate degree (Business Administration)
and law degree (Juris Doctor) from the University of South
Dakota at Vermillion. He returned to Mitchell to practice
law privately in 1992, before running for office. |
| Job Description |
| The State's Attorney duties
include representing the State of South Dakota in criminal
and juvenile court, and advising and when necessary defending
Davison County in civil matters. The Davison County
State's Attorney is a full-time position. He works
with local law enforcement including the Mitchell Police
Department, Davison County Sheriff's office, South Dakota
Highway Patrol and the Department of Game, Fish and Parks,
to enforce the laws of South Dakota. He makes all final
charging decisions in regard to violations of the law and
prosecutes those charged with crimes in court. |
