Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC)

Introduction
The Davison County Office of Emergency Management is responsible for the coordination of the Davison County LEPC.

The use of and transportation of hazardous materials continues to increase in complexity. Each year, new chemicals are introduced into commerce. From time to time, commodities already in commerce have been found to create previously unrecognized hazards, or they have been found to create additional hazards to those originally noted and provided for.

It has been deemed in the best interest of the residents of Davison County to address the various problems associated with hazardous materials as well as other natural and technological (man-made) hazards by organizing the Davison County Local Emergency Planning Committee.

Purpose Statement
The purpose and goal of the Davison County LEPC is to carry out the responsibilities set fourth in SARA (Superfund Amendment Reauthorization Act) Title III and to ensure Davison County as a jurisdiction continues to prepare for all natural and technological emergencies and disasters. It is also to form professional relationships among agencies to increase cooperation, coordination, and interactions among those agencies that will be necessary during those same incidents

Committee Membership
Members of the Committee are appointed by the Davison County Board of Commissioners and include: elected state and local officials, Law Enforcement, Fire, Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services, Public Health Professionals, Environmental Personnel, Hospital and Transportation Officials, Volunteer Agencies, Facility Representatives, Community Groups, and the Media.

Committee Responsibilities
In addition to fulfilling the roles identified by SARA Title III, the coordination and communication role, and the general interaction among agencies, the Committee also serves as the jurisdictions Disaster Exercise Planning Committee. In this role, the committee coordinates, plans, prepares, and evaluates the jurisdictions yearly Disaster Exercise. The goal of this exercise is to help prepare jurisdictional agencies for the mock event as well as work on communication and coordination skills necessary during larger events
