Instructions to Absentee Vote
Below are four (4) ways to access an absentee ballot application
1. If you have access to the internet you may access the South Dakota Secretary of State web site at http://www.sdsos.gov for an absentee ballot application.
  1. Complete the application, print it and sign it (must have your original signature).
  2. And; you must do one of the following:
    • Have the application notarized or;
    • Send a copy of one of the forms of acceptable picture ID’s with it. (acceptable forms of ID’s listed below)
  3. Mail your completed application to the Davison County Auditor, 200 East 4th Avenue, Mitchell, SD 57301. We can not accept faxed or e-mailed applications as we must have the application with the original signature on it.
2. If you DO NOT have access to the internet you may either pick up an absentee application from the auditor’s office :  Davison County Auditor

3. Write a letter to the Auditor. This letter must have the following information:
  • Your name
  • Your residency address (can not be a PO Box- must be a physical residence)
  • The address you want the ballot mailed to
  • Your ORIGINAL SIGNATURE (If your using one letter for two or more people – all must sign the letter) and;
  • A copy of an acceptable form of Identification (acceptable Id’s listed below)
     
  • Personal Identification that may be presented shall be either:
    1. A South Dakota driver’s license or non-driver identification card;
    2. A passport or an identification card, including a picture, issued by an agency of the United State’s Government;
    3. A tribal identification card, including a picture; or
    4. An identification card, including a picture, issued by a high school or an accredited institution of higher education, including a university, college, or technical school, located within South Dakota.
      Remember: If you do not have the above listed identification, your application must be signed by you and Notarized.
4.  You may also vote absentee at the auditor’s office, you simply bring along your ID, complete an absentee application and vote. If you do not have an acceptable form of ID, you will be offered a personal identification affidavit to complete and then you may proceed to vote.
The deadline for voter registration is TBA at 5:00 p.m
Absentee Applications may be made up until 3:00 p.m. on Election day, TBA
